I think this new acceptance of the GLBT community within schools can be dependent on where the school is, which means that things are still somewhat as they always are. I go to a community college in a relatively small town and the amount of homophobia is kind of startling to me. There is no particular link among the people who express it either. Young and old, male and female - it is there and it is constant. In fact, the only people who do not make insulting comments of one kind or another are the teachers.
So, while I do know some Christians/conservatives who hold to the idea of ‘judge not lest ye be judged’, it is my experience that this remains the minority. Whether they truly believe what the espouse or not, they do not think beyond those words in the slightest.
